Class Schedule

Classes

All classes are 90 minutes, consisting of 30 minutes of discussion and 60 minutes of play. We use coded “Duplicate” cards with scores for our play. Each student is a Declarer at least once per class.

For Spring 2018, our textbooks are the ACBL’s More Commonly Used Conventions in the 21st Century Teacher Manual, Audrey Grant’s and Eric Rodwell’s 2 Over 1 Game Force, Audrey Grant’s Five Tips to Simplify Slam Bidding, Robert Todd’s TWiB, Paul Thurston’s Bridge: 25 Steps to Learning 2/1, Bill Treble’s Two Over One, and Patty Tucker’s Conventions Useful for 2/1. These books are NOT required for the course; however, we will do bulk buying at wholesale prices (generally 60% of retail) for any books that more than 12 students request. In addition, each student may purchase a class binder, which is a subscription to the course’s printed handouts. Your order form for the books and binder is at the back of your syllabus. For Spring 2017, all ACBL Defense classes were at the Decatur Recreation Center. Our textbook was the ACBL Bridge Series: Defense.

  2. Chapter 1 — Opening Leads against NoTrump Contracts.
  3. Chapter 2 — Opening Leads against Suit Contracts.
  4. Chapter 3 — Third-Hand Play.
  5. Chapter 4 — Second-Hand Play.
  6. Chapter 5 — Defensive Signals.
  7. Chapter 6 — Developing Defensive Tricks.
  8. Chapter 7 — Interfering with Declarer.
  9. Chapter 8 — Making a Plan.

For Spring 2017, all Bridge Basics classes were at the Decatur YMCA. Our three textbooks were Audrey Grant’s Bridge Basics 1: An Introduction (BB1), Bridge Basics 2: Competitive Bidding (BB2), and Bridge Basics 3: Popular Conventions (BB3). We studied one chapter per class. Although this course has completed, the syllabus, lectures, practice hands, and certificate remain available.
